Act 1, Scene 1
The Launch
Setting: A Lyft van to the airport in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Characters: Two journalists from Boston.
Scene setup: The women have never met but share a common acquaintance. They’ve just spent a week at a professional conference and are headed home to Boston. One mentions a play she’s seen recently.
And so began Scene in Boston — a podcast documenting Boston’s vibrant, innovative, and sometimes surprising theater scene.
We’re not ready to launch just yet, but we expect to start releasing episodes in early 2026. Think of this newsletter as a preview: behind-the-scenes updates on what it takes to build a podcast designed to make Boston’s theater culture easier to find, talk about, and love.
Who We Are
Laura Amico is a Boston-based journalist, BPS mom, inclusion advocate, and swimmer. She’s seen every play in the Ufot Family Cycle so far and has a soft spot for ART. She’s not a theater geek, doesn’t perform anything, and can rarely afford a babysitter for a night at the theater. But she tries!
Most life-changing shows: The Tempest and Life of Pi at ART, and Our Town at the Barrymore Theatre in New York.
Additional team members are backstage!
What We’ll Do
Scene in Boston is here to make it easier — and more fun — to keep up with Boston’s theater scene.
We’ll share stories, reviews, and roundtable conversations about what’s on stage and why it matters, plus a calendar that helps you see what’s playing, when, and where. Think of it as your guide to deciding what to see next and your invitation to join the conversation.
Who We’re For
For theater lovers of every kind — season subscribers, occasional ticket-buyers, and the simply curious.
If you care about what’s happening on Boston’s stages, Scene in Boston is for you.
Get Involved
We’re launching Scene in Boston because we want more people to discuss theater with. We want to know what our friends, and soon-to-be-friends, are planning to see and what they think about what they just saw. If that’s you, reach out! We’d love to hear from you and your voice will help guide our launch.
Also, because life. Join us as a subscriber and, if you can, pledge a contribution to support our launch. Early subscribers are our founding supporters, making Scene in Boston’s reporting, editing, and production possible.
When we reach 10 paid subscribers, we’ll start recording.
At 20, we’ll commission original theme music.
At 50, we’ll launch a theater calendar.
